New Immigration Law in Arizona

Dear Students,

Arizona recently past a law making it illegal to be an undocumented immigrant. If a police officer suspects you are undocumented you can be asked to show your ID and papers and if you do not show papers proving you are here legally you can be arrested for 6 months and fined $2500. Do you agree or disagree with this law? State why you agree or disagree. What is the affect this law will have on the families of those arrested? Do you think a this type of law will be past in New York?

The link below is an article that can help you form your answers.

  1. I extremely disagree with this law. I believe no one should be humiliated this way, this is an unfair law that should've never been aproved in the first place. Immigrants come from everywhere around the world to the land of dreams and hopes, hoping for a better future and education for their families. No one should be denied from this because of their immigrant status. When members of families get arrested children will get separated from their mothers and fathers. Families will be splitted apart, and probably never see eachother again. Why can't we just all share this beautiful country and the opportunities it gives us?

  2. I agree with you. I don't believe police should be allowed to question people they "suspect" to be illegal immigrants. I know in their minds that they think this law can help them push out people who are not allowed to be here, but everyone diserves a second chance. Thats the whole point of coming to America. This law is just.... wow I can't even think of anything else to say about this stupid law.

  4. When i first heard this from a teacher from my school, the first thing that came to my mind was what happens to "freedom" the constitution has stated? In my opinion, i feel its unfair, for a police officer to check your papers if you "looked" undocumented. For police officer being able to do so, takes away all your privacy. Addition to that, what if you forgot to bring your documents/ID/papers one day? Will you still get arrested and fined $2500 even if you have these things? Hopefully this type of law wouldn't be past in New York, because it will be like taking away privacy from citizens of another state.

  5. I believe that the newly established law in Arizona is unconstitutional. This LAW CONTRADICT THE VERY Bases The AMERICAS was founded upon. All human are born equal and should be treated as such.
